Thanks to donations by Dave Koberstein and H Grant Delaney we have new US and Canadian data. I have also been given Newfoundland data and the UK data and even a little (very little) Japanese data but, because all these databases have very different formats, it is very difficult to squeeze them into the server. I will continue work in this area but I think it might take a redesign of the server itself to handle all the data in a nice way. Sigh. The US portion of this database is derived from the QRZ! Ham Radio CDROM from Walnut Creek. A copy of this disc was donated by Dave Koberstein, N9DK, and it is current as of January 1994. The US club calls were donated by Jere Sandidge, K4FUM, and arranged to look nicer by Bob Wier, WB5KXH. I believe this database is rather old but I have no date for the information there. The Canadian data was donated by H Grant Delaney, VE4HGD. This data is good as of April 1994. If you have any data that is newer than these or if you have data from another country that you would like to merge into the server please contact me. The callsign server at the University of Buffalo is a telnet server which means you need Internet access and, more specifically, you need the telnet program to use it. This is very common, so it shouldn't be a problem but if you don't have it, you can't use the server. Assuming you have the ability to telnet you simply want to connect to the server by doing a telnet callsign.cs.buffalo.edu 2000 If this doesn't work you can also try telnet electra.cs.buffalo.edu 2000 or finally telnet 128.205.32.2 2000 Once you connect to the server you will get a little banner that says you are connected and then you'll get a prompt. At the prompt, I recommend that you first type the "info" command and then type "help" to get you started. You should be able to figure out most of it from there. Have fun. Let me know if there are other problems. The question is; is there a way to increase the 1200's output by using the 110's output PA section? Thanks for any comments on this. I hope those of you with experience on these >rigs will keep it up for a few more days... >Jim Deeming Jim, I have posted on this topic several times, and i think that having used both rigs, i can point out a few differences and similarities. The 530 does scan to find the PL tone in use by a repeater, but the repeater has to be active and pass the PL to the output, some do not The 530 is a bit easier to program, but has a compromise in terms of the VFO arrangement. You can only trtansmit 2 meter from the left and only 70 cm on the right. You can rx any band on either side, but each side had discrete menory channels. In contrast, the th78 can tx and rx either band from either VFO, and both VFOs use the same memory channels. this means that you don't have to hog up 2 mem slots if you want to monitor the same freq on both VFOs. The alpha-numeric display on the 78 does cut the total mem to 125 channels but id say that it is WELL worth it. I think that it is fair to say that the 530 is more "user-friendly" but the 78 wins hands down for the power-user and VFO flexibility freak contingent (of which i plead guilt by association).
